July 25, 2024 7:16 pm

Shopping for swimsuits can be a challenge—especially if you’re dressing around a changing body, perhaps one affected by “menopause belly,” a reality for many women in the years leading up to and during menopause. The good news: QVC is currently hosting a massive swimsuit sale, with many options specifically suited for feeling comfortable and confident with menopause belly.

Shop on, then ride out the rest of summer in style. Pool party, here you come!

What is Menopause Belly and Why Does It Happen?

According to Dr. Babak Azizzadeh, co-founder of Persana, “menopause belly” is a term used to describe the weight gain and bloating around the stomach area, which can occur during menopause due to physical and gut health changes.“Hormonal changes can make it more likely that women will gain weight around their abdomen instead of their hips and thighs,” says Dr. Azizzadeh. Reduced hormone production tends to result in lost muscle tone around the midsection, which is replaced by fatty tissue deposits. Hence, the dreaded menopause belly.

What Can You Do About Menopause Belly?

Sticking to a healthy diet and regular exercise is the first step to challenging a menopause belly. How much (or how little) you sleep and how much stress you feel are also contributing factors. If menopause belly is particularly bothersome to you, Dr. Azizzadeh recommends talking to your doctor about supplements or hormone therapy that may help.

What To Look For In Swimsuits When You Have Menopause Belly

You wouldn’t want to waste a good beach day tugging at your swimsuit or self-conscious of your menopause belly. So when shopping for swimsuits, take comfort into consideration. Look for a design that skims over a midsection or provides tummy control—or, perhaps, both. Two-piece sets with flowy fronts and wide waistbands are a good option, and so are one-pieces with plenty of compression and design details, like a ruffled neckline.
